Experience with multilingual courses

We offer several courses. All of them are in English but some of them are also available in German, Spanish and/or French.

I read about the multilingual content on docs.moodle.org but I am still not convinced what the best approach is.

Option 1: Translate the course content with the language blocks
Option 2: Create a course for each language

Has somebody experience with both options? And if yes which option are you applying today and why?

I would look at this from usage and operational point of view. Having all in one course, gives you nice parallelism but using multiple language filter requires extra effort in setting things up. If the audience of each language is separate, then two courses would make more sense. With separate courses, you can also have minor variations if that is required for specific content/language.
