Mary "On the QA Moodle site, Terri Teacher can switch her role to eg a student. On my test Moodle my teacher can't - so I went to permissions in site admin to see if I could give him that permission."
Hm, there is no reason why a teacher should not be able to switch role to student. It is a default setting and is working that way on my freshly upgraded 2.0 local test site.
EDIT.- Well, if I log into my test site as Admin (manager), I go to Check permissions in System and Permissions for user Jean Piaget (that's the name of one of my fictitious teachers), go down to Switch to other roles moodle/role:switchroles: No!
It says "No", and yet, if I log in as teacher Jean Piaget, I can switch to student or non-editing teacher (as I would expect).
Now, if I go to "Viewing the definition of role 'Teacher' " and scroll down to Switch roles, I see "Switch to other roles moodle/role:switchroles Allow".
Totally bewildered by roles in Moodle (once again)...
Or more likely, my test moodle isn't set up right - but I don't know why.
OK, I think I got it now... When, as admin, I go to Check permissions in System and Permissions for user Jean Piaget (who has a teacher role in one of my site's courses), I see that he cannot switch roles at system level. But he can, at course level.
By the way, there is a Check permissions at System level, a Check permissions at each activity or resource level, but I do not see a Check permissions at Course level. Is there one?
