spans and user friendly URLs

Hallo,

I think I might have understood why the hack for user friendly URLs

http://docs.moodle.org/en/Administration_hacks#Access_courses_with_a_permanent_user_friendly_URL

is not working on my site: I use multi-language span and therefore, names of courses are like this:

<span class="multilang" lang="fr">Communiquer</span><span class="multilang" lang="de">Kommunizieren</span><span class="multilang" lang="en">Communicating</span><span class="multilang" lang="es">Comunicando</span>

So if I understand the docs, all these special caracters aren't accepted.

Do I understand the docs thoughtful ?

Thank you...!

Ulrike

Hi Ulrike
It sounds like your http://site.com/pages/FriendlyName isn't going to be very friendly anyway, would it look like this:

http://site.com/pages/<span class="multilang" lang="fr">Communiquer</span><span class="multilang" lang="de">Kommunizieren</span><span class="multilang" lang="en">Communicating</span><span class="multilang" lang="es">Comunicando</span>

Perhaps you could use the ID number instead if one is set for your courses. Eg if you have a course with "Course101" as the ID Number you can refer to it using the following URL

http://site.com/course/view.php?idnumber=Course101

Not quite as nice looking as /pages/ but still it could be useful.
Cheers
Teresa

Hallo Teresa,

Thank you for your answer. My problem isn't really how I refer to the pages (I can alwyas put the link on any word), but how the URLs appear...

Thanks for any idea - and if anybody knows if I can "hack" anything so the the short name would be used....

Ulrike
