For people having trouble to activate cron in this situation.

I planned to use a win2k-server behind proxy and firewall to trigger cron.php on a hosted website. The suggested sollution with wget.exe didn't serv my needs:

  • I couldn't get it to work from behind the proxyserver of my provider (Telenet-Belgium)
  • It doesn't start as a service, so I have to restart sinc when I restart the server (and I forget such things)

On that server I use DirectUpdate (http://www.directupdate.net/), a shareware program that runs as a service to update a dynamic dns-server. The program comes with a keep-alive-function, working with ping or ... webrequest. You can set the time intervals, it has also all possibilities to configure proxyservers. You don't have to use it for dynamic dns.

It does the trick perfectly
