Unable to open PDF file, in Moodle 1.4.2+ (2004083126)

Opening a pdf happens in your local pdf reader (generally acrobat on a Microsoft platform), Moodle only delivers the content to the browser, it doesn't change it. Have you tried to download the pdf and open it locally, to check it is not corrupt or in some way invalid.
