Removing course formats

Removing course formats

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know what happens to a course using a particular format if the said format is removed from the Moodle installation? Does it default to the first or next format in the list? Or does it revert to "Do not force" mode?

I thought I would ask before removing some non-functional course formats from my Moodle installation!

Hi Sarah,
do you have a spare install of Moodle to try it on?

I have a backup Moodle where I try things out and answer such questions as "I wonder what will happen when I...."

I can't recommend it enough..it certainly adds to my peace of mind!

I will ask our backend admin to try that on our development server.

If the format doesn't exist it will default to the weeks format.

Well, sort of!

It would default to the one set in Site Administration -> Courses -> Course default settings

Gareth is correct.

Weeks is the default default though smile

I'm planning to remove some of the fedault installed formats since they are not used in our setup.

To remove a course format, do we just have to delete the particular format folder in the moodle structure or do we need to do more than just that.
