I need to provide a functionality to the users for they to be able to specify a date range on which the "visibility" of the activities might be changed. I.e., the teachers could change the date range on which his tutorials will be visibles for his students.

Can u give information about this?

If 'wait for Moodle 2' is an option (supposedly it's due out end July) it's built into that version.

Otherwise, this is a difficult change. You will need to add a couple columns to course_modules table to store the dates, change course/moodleform_mod.php to add the options to standard module settings, and change course/lib.php print_section to make it actually hide the items. If none of that makes sense to you then sorry, you're probably screwed, better wait for moodle 2. smile
