Moodle written in other programming languages

This is a little abstract, but I can recall some blog posts/news around the web a few years ago that basically said that two Moodlers were rewriting the code using a different language (not php). Anyone recall this? (or was I imagining?).

Irregardless, would Moodle still be Moodle if it weren't written in php? (I would argue yes).

I'd be curious to know if anyone has thoughts or info on either of the above.

Joseph - I vaguely recall this as a possible April fool's gag and I do think that some folks may have been talking about porting Moodle into .NET as I recall. You can find that discussion at http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=75548. It seems folks had fun with the discussion but I would not expect anything to come of it. Peace - Anthony

haha, I did read as much as I cared to on that thread. You may be right about the April Fool's gag though.

Good call on that,

Joe
