Installation stuck on site.php script

Greetings to All:

I just installed Moodle 1.4.2 on a remote server (running Apache).  Everything went extremely well with the database setup and other things I expected to have problems with.

The problem I did not expect was that as the installation continued, I am hung on the site.php script, which after I enter changes, returns to the screen with default settings.  Making or not making changes does not affect the performance of this one page.  It always returns to the site.php default-looking page.

I tried logging on to Moodle again, but it instantly takes me to the site.php script, BEFORE I am allowed to access anything on the site.  This is a kind of loop that I don't know how to get out of ...

This ever happen to anyone else?  Anyone got any good ideas?

BTW, I'm also running Moodle 1.3.4 on another directory of the web server.  Might this have any affect on my situation?

Thanks a million!
