Well, if they changed the version number I have to ask myself why did they do that. There must have been some reason and if they bungled that then what else did they bungle?
And... I was only answering the question I had been asked. The OP wanted to start fresh with the 1.9.7 version and the answer (to that question asked) was to drop the database. If he had months (or even days) worth of work in place then, dare I say obviously, it would be a completely different scenario and we would be looking for a fix to his problem (not just starting again).
