Thanks for your interest in working with me.
I'm very interested in working on integration of interactive Flash content into Moodle. I am hoping that there might be some interest in paying for some work to be done in this area.
I'm working on a Hindi languge learning web site. You can see the plans for the site, which include plans for lots of interactive content here on the front page
of my site :
I was intending to make my first activity open source. It is a flash movie that can be used for practising character recognition. The computer plays one random sound and the user must press the button with the correct character corresponding to the sound. I have programmed the activity with animated drawings of Hindi devanagiri letters. But I want to generalise it to be able to load in UTF fonts or portions of fonts so that similar activities can be made for practising the I.P.A., Japanese or other characters and even to take a phonetic approach to teaching the English character set. We can embed fonts or portions of fonts in our Flash movies so that we can display any character set in our movies on any computer with the Flash player(the fonts will have to be compiled as a Flash swf first).
You can see a version of my find the character activity, not yet integrated (and still a bit buggy it seems) into moodle but configured by an xml file, here :
and here is another xml configured flash movie :
On my site I intend to have several character recognition activities starting with the vowels and then working through the devanagiri constonants step by step. I will have other activities to practise reading and writing devanagiri individually at first and in combination with other letters and in phrases and dialgoues. My single letter quizz cofiguration xml tells the quizz instance what letters to include in that quizz.
This first activity will be a good example of how we can integrate Flash content with moodle. It will include a flash movie to edit configuration xml which will be saved in the moodle database
, loading in this xml from the moodle database to configure the Flash movie and then recording how the student did with the activity in the moodle database. I want to make these results available in the grade book etc.
My next programming task I've become interested in working on is to produce flash movies to allow teachers and students to annotate audio or video with sub titles (store the sub titles in the moodle database) and playback the sub titles with the video / audio. Unless I find someone to pay for the developement of this activity I'm not sure if I can open source it or allow others to use it since I want to build a site that people will pay to use and if I open source all my code I will leave myself without any income for my work. I'd be happy to work on any paying project to produce interactive Flash content and if I can make this pay enough to support me then I can open source more of my work! Any money that someone is willing to pay for my work will go a long way since I'm living in India!
I hope to have completed my first character recognition activity in the next fortnight and will see if I can get it put in the CVS
I would be very happy to take on any related programming tasks or to expand the scope of what I'm working or make more of what I'm working on open source if money is available for my work.
Tell me more about your moodle - flash generic interface plans.
