I am trying to install Moodle on a Yahoo Small Business Domain and am getting to the Server Checks screen with the following error:

MySQL 4.1.16 is the minimum version required for Moodle 1.6 in order to guarantee that all data can be converted to UTF-8 in the future.

At the bottom it reads.

You must solve all the environmental problems (errors) found above before proceeding to install this Moodle version!

I cannot proceed any further.

If anyone has had this problem please advise.

Firstly, don't use anything less than Moodle 1.9.7 (latest version). There are security problems in older versions, not to mention newer features in new versions that are worth having.

If your host is only providing MySQL 4.1 (5.1 is the latest) then I would find a host that is more up-to-date. I guess is they're probably not running a very recent version of PHP either and that is also cause for concern.

I solved this problem by editing the environment.xml file to check for MySQL 4.1.14 instead big grin, installation went smoothly. Now the only problem I have is that I can't log in.
