Hi ppl, I have a bit of an odd query and I could really use some help...
Our Moodle Instance has three primary roles: Tutor, Student, Content Developer (CD). The latter's role should be that of assisting the tutor in uploading/organising material and posting News Forum.
Initially, the CD's role was a replica of that of the Tutor. Though, for privacy issues, it was decided that we should limit what data is accessible to the CD, such as students' posts on forums, submitted assignments etc. Basically, the CD should not have access to interactive activities, but can possibly post in News Forum.
I want the I got down to setting the role permissions (through Define Roles). I tried tampering with Forum section, but could not get the results I wanted, i.e. I could not get the CD to be able to add posts in the News Forum without being able to view discussions in any other forum. The key capability config is 'mod/forum:viewdiscussion. When set to Prevent/Prohibit, the CD is restricted from seeing any type of forum, including News Forum...thus restricted from adding news.
I did get to a solution by overriding permissions... I left everything as default in Define Roles, and set mod/forum:viewdiscussion to Prevent/Prohibit for every forum except News Forum. The CD could only access and post in News Forum.
THOUGH, I cannot see this being feasible for a Moodle instance having over 400 course areas, each with their own forums.
Is there a way to set Override Permissions across all forums (without affecting News Forums), so that a role can only access News forum?
