Moodle is kinda boring , i get tired of sitting here every day checking for updates . I never get any notifications ! This site is about to get reported for how boring it is ! Anyways my school even says it's boring ! So yeah! Put that in your juice box and suck it ! The only person that uses moodle at my school is the Librarian ! So ha ! You guys should really make this Web Page more teenager like . My friends said they would get on here if this website was better looking and more fun ! If you guys were smart you would listen to me ! As soon as i heard about this in school i signed up for it as fast as i could ! And it got me no where ! Change the site layout and i'm telling you , more people will sign up !

Thanks ,

Wow Hannah,

Do you realize where you are posting your comments? You just posted your comments to the WORLD Moodle.org forum. Which has nothing to do with your school.

This forum is for professional development and advancement of Moodle... which is not where I believe you think you are posting. It literally has nothing to do with the Beech Grove Middle School.

Please contact your Beech Grove Middle School for help on how to log onto YOUR school Moodle site.

Cheers...

Garren,

We may want to have Hannah show her teachers how to login and participate on the Moodle.org site so that they might learn how to more fully use Moodle and perhaps spice up their site to Hannah's liking. Perhaps Hannah can discover some things and give feedback to her teachers about how to make better use of Moodle. I am glad to see that Hannah is vocalizing her ideas. Who knows Hannah may become a Moodle theme designer, usability specialist, or designer. It sounds like there is some passion there that can go a long way.

Peace - Anthony

By the Powers... your right Anthony.

I thought about that after I posted. I am sometimes a bit too quick on the "Send" button big grin
One of my staff members pointed out how spot-on Hannah was in regard to the bland nature of stock Moodle. So taking that into account, I directed him to start looking into a fresh look for our district.

Seems we could use input from students as well. Thanks for point that out.

Cheers...

Garren - One of the things I enjoy about open source development is that even complaining can be quite helpful. It is good to encourage participation and let the students know that they have a voice. I used to give extra credit to my students if they found any errors in my courses and one time a student found and reported a Moodle bug which we promptly fixed. Not only did he get extra credit, he also learned that he could make Moodle better. Everyone has something to offer. Thanks for your openness to listening and responding to those ideas. Peace - Anthony

WOW! Hannah, even though you kind of misplaced your comment in the moodle.org WORLD forum wink - I think it IS the right place to reach teachers all over the world and make them consider who they are making the moodle classroms for and what the purpose of such an online classroom should be.
  • Too often it is still used as a - what I call it: data dump - and teachers just upload their existing worksheets or whatever they already have to provide the stuff to students. This does not change anything for the students- one advantage just being to reduce the carbon footprint.
  • If we want to engage students in learning we will have to make their virtal classroom a place where they love to be and where they can discover interesting stuff and activities.
  • Moodle gives the teacher the chance to get the world into the classroom and to engage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and working together in teams. Still, the learning environment which is still kind of formal learning environment has to compete with the informal learning of our students in other places like social websites etc.
  • We need to give them learning opportunities and giving them a voice when it comes to choose topics and ways they want to learn- the curriculum leaves quite some freedom to teachers!
  • Why should we not play around with the design of a courseroom if the students don't like it- it is just a mouseclick away to "paint the walls in a different colour and to put pictures on the walls"
  • If students are given a voice they will easily accept their courseroom as their "home"
  • As for the lack of notifications Hannah, you will need to adapt your eMail settings so that you will get an automated notification whenever there is a new post.
  • As for your teacher: I think you can't always blame the teacher- if he/she never got a good training on how to use moodle in a creative way it is already a good thing that he/she has the coureage to set up a moodle classroom. And as you can see from the reaction here in the international forum, there are quite a number of helpful people all over the world- this is also what makes Moodle a great place!
So, you hopefully triggered a development and a discussion in your school, Hannah.
If you'd like to get in contact with my students of English in Germany, just drop me a word.
Kind regards
Sigi
