Orca is an open source screen reader. It works on OS level like once you install , it starts working with Desktop and to any other Application provided by OS.

Has anybody checked working of Moodle with Orca? B'coz Moodle is also open source, we should prefer to use open source application with it.

Hi Leena,

I've seen no published test results for Orca.

First, I've heard of Orca and I believe it's mostly for Linux, right? Our aim should be to make Moodle work with the full range/all brands of assistive technology (AT).

That said, we've tested with JAWS, as that is a popular choice. In the UK, many students with a disability are assessed and have their AT paid for - JAWS is a popular choice with training available (I imagine training and continuity between school, home and work are important criteria - WebAIM survey "What is the main reason for using your primary screen reader?" - "Existing Comfort/Expertise - 42.9%").

Personally, I'm a fan of NVDA, an open source screen reader for Windows - it's gaining in popularity.

I hope that answers your question. Yours,

Nick
