That's very clear now. I understand and can explain to the student. I love the tactful way you write "it is just that your understanding of how the software works and what it actually does are not sufficiently aligned yet"

I'm perfectly happy to have it working like this. I don't want students to be penalised for making mistakes - it's an essential part of learning - I just want them to continue until they find the right answer.
