I'm trying to setup my site so that upon successful completion of a quiz you are awarded a certificate.
Is it possible to do this? Or can certificates only be awarded on successful completion of a course?
New to the whole Moodle thing so excuse me if I've missed the glaringly obvious...
Thanks for your help!
Actually is pretty easy. First you need to create a Quiz (e.g. Course Exam) and then create your certificate. When you create your certificate, you'll fill a form with the certificate details, like Certificate Name, If the certificate will print a date or grade, etc. To setup the certificate so the student can get the certificate after successfully complete the Quiz, look for the Locking Options and Dependent activities, here select the desired Quiz (e.g. Course Exam) and the Required Grade (e.g. 80%).
Now when the student visit the course, he will find the certificate and quiz, but if he clicks the certificate, the system will advise him that he first meet the course requirements (the Quiz) before get the certificate.
Could you any suggestions regarding certificates generation.
I could able to generate the certificates, but my requirement is once student completes his course he would get the certificate to his mail. is it possible.
I am using Moodle 2.0.. Am able to view/print/save the certificate when i login as admin. But a only a blank page is seen when i try to view using other login...
Can anyone please let me know how to get this resolved.
Would you please turn on debugging in your site settings and then visit the page that is not displaying and copy the error message you receive here please?
Can you tell me where i find the Locking options and dependant activities option boxes? I cant seem to find them under certificate settings.
You are not saying what Moodle version you are using wich is very infortunate as the answer to your question is completely different if you are using moodle 1.9 or if you are using Moodle 2.0/2.1/ 2.2
As you says "I can't seem to find them under certifiacte settings" I will assume you are using Moodle 2.0/2.1/2.2 but my answer will be completely irrelevant if you are using Moodle 1.9 !
In Moodle 2.x all locking options settings and code has been completely removed from the certificate module because certificate is now using a general feature named conditional activities.
Please see documentation about conditional activities here.
Note that to use it, your administrator need to have enabled it in Site Administration (or that you should enable it if you are your own Moodle administrator).
.I'm having the same problem. I'm using 2.5+ and have updated to the latest certificate module but I don't have the ability to issue a certificate dependent on the quiz. Am I doing something wrong?
Mary, thanks for responding so quickly. I'm not in 2 .7 yet I'm working in 2.5+ I'm actually working in this course right now. The course is actually a video URL on YouTube. Is there way to do that?
Hello there. Nobody mentioned anything about 2.7 - completion tracking and conditional activities work for 2.5 anyway, so do you have them enabled? See the 2.5 docs on Activity completion and Conditional activities
When you say the course is a video URL on Youtube - do you mean that you have a course and it just contains a URL link to a Youtube video? That's fine- you should be able to award the certificate upon viewing the video.
Mary, thanks, I got it figured out.
Has anyone been able to make this work?
Meaning, the user submits a questionnaire and upon completion he sees a button to generate the certificate of completion?
Yes, as stated above, use completion settings and restrictions to achieve this.
I am using completion settings and restrictions, once the checkbox is ticked, the student will manual go click on certificate to generate it. Is there a way to automate this, using the restriction?
No, the student will always have to click on the certificate..if they are not seeing clearly, you could have a label appear with instructions and a nice big button or something to generate the certificate.
I see, so this label would appear on the course page? not in the quiz rite?
Yes, though you could add a label in the quiz, but it would appear regardless of whether they passed the quiz or not. If you just require that they complete the quiz, then you could add a label after the last question in the quiz with a link to the certificate activity which you would then place in the final section of the quiz and then delete the section to make the certificate "orphaned" - not visible to students but still accessible.
