Another weird wrinkle to this problem:
In the category "Social Work," I have a bunch of sub-categories:
- Summer 2009
- Summer 2008
- Continuing Education
If I assign the user a role at the category level on the "Summer 2009" or "Summer 2008" categories, I get the behavior I described above.
If I assign the user that same role in the Continuing Education category, everything works fine. (User has access to all courses in the category, courses show up in the My Courses block.)
