Restricting

Fellow Moodlers,

I would like to know if there is a way to restrict people (who are not users) from logging into the site based on their IP address? Or a way to restrict/block people(who are not users) from logging into the site based on the number of failed login attempts?

Do you use Apache web server?

If that is your case, you can use .htaccess files for blocking access of users based on their IP address.

Hi there, I think this is answer I'm looking for, although I'm not too sure how to do this. I want to allow users to create their own accounts, but I only want people from certain locations to be able to do so. For example we have a site that 4 different locations (all the same company) need to access and I want to restrict access to just those 4 locations.

I have access to my server and use cPanel to make modifications, but I'm definitely not familiar with .htaccess files. I know Apache is on there.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
