Hardware and performance

I installed the latest version of Moodle on my PC in a clean Sandbox environment but it is running very slow - I'm twiddling my thumbs every time I click on a menu item. Claroline and Dokeos run fine so I'm assuming Moodle isn't doing a very good job of installing itself? Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

I tried setting the Cache to Internal but there is not much difference?
