I am wanting to create online workbooks for students with basic text supplied, but with space for them to make additions, links, etc.

I thought the best way would be to create student wikis, and I have tried using the 'no groups' and the 'visible groups' settings, but I can't seem to get a wiki that individual students can edit. Either the supplied content doesn't appear at all, or it appears but is locked for editing. There are over 200 students in the class, and the workbooks are over 100 pages long, so options like the online text assignment are out.
