Grades and Feedback Emailed To Students

First of all, I should tell you all I am very new to Moodle.  Please don't overlook any "obvious" answers.

I set up an assignment, had my students upload a file.  I can view their files, assign grades - and even give feedback.  However, those grades and feedback are never emailed to my students.  I have also noticed that none of my forum or chat content ever gets email to either my students or myself.

I have looked through the settings and not found the problem.  Is there something I need to turn on to make this work?

Hi Harvy

All that needs to be activated is your mail smtp user under your sites configuration-variables and you need to setup a cron job for http:// yoursite/admin/cron.php aswell .

PS ...If you dont know what a cron job is ?

A cron job is a automated process that is time activated by the server, usually every 5 minutes.
