We have a tried to create a Chinese user on our Moodle site. We have entered the Chinese characters he required for a username.
When we try and upload the profile we get the message.
"Can only contain alphabetical letters or numbers"
We have the Chinese language pack installed and unicode is enabled in settings.
The course page we have created in Chinese displays fine.
Im presuming Chinese users of Moodel don't have this problem and wondered if anyone can suggest what the fix is.

From Administration > Security > Site policies you can select
Allow extended characters in usernames
to allow also Chinese usernames
