Thanks for pointing this out, but I don't think there is a problem. There is overlap between Sympl and GeoGebra (and CaR), but Sympl is not looking to be a clone product.
This is a very early version, so probably the distinction isn't yet apparent. The direction I hope to take it is more towards being able to visualise data and maths functions in various ways, and using scripting to provide very flexible control over how the graphs change.
So I don't think it compares directly to CaR, it will do some of the same things and quite a lot of different things.
As for the thesis idea, I'm sure it has been done before
