I would like students within a non moodle VLE ( X ) to be able to access a moodle course without having to login to moodle. If I set up a moodle course with guest access, a link to an activity within this course would require them to click on guest access and put in an enrolement key. Would it be possible to customise the course so that a URL call could contain the enrolment key and send the student straight to the activity?
What are the security implications assuming X is secure and password protected?
Theres a thread on a similar issue discussing the pros and cons of windows save password feature but I don't want to get students to do this since they will almost certainly be using multiple machines to access the course.
Why do I want to do this? Well, I have to produce quizzes that are platform independant ( X could be BB, Angel, WebCT...) , at the moment I have a flash quiz that works OK but would take a lot to extend its capabilities. It would make sense if I could put all quizzes on moodle and let them be accessed from other VLEs. I don't want to start thinking about using a perception server because I'm not sure I will always have access to one.
I'd also like to ask a reflective question in a web page and link students directly to a one thread moodle forum where they could post their answer and see everyone elses. I'm not sure you can do this with other VLEs in the same way as you can do it on moodle.
Of course I could wait until I become President of the world government in which case all non-moodle VLEs will be banned immediatly (along with McDonalds) but I'm not sure this will happen any time soon
