Newbury theme Menubar formatting problem

Hi All

A question that someone may be able to help me with. I have my school's Moodle set up with the spectacular theme by Shaun Daubney - Newbury v4.

Using the default menubar.php (but of course putting in my own links) looks great. But for my front page the dropdown menu items are too wide. This is shown in the following screenshot (menu-unaltered.png)

Menu Unaltered

I'm trying to reduce the width of the dropdown menu items, and therefore went into the styles_menubar.css file, and altered the width of all the <ul> items to be 150px wide, and tried out my shmoodle.

Code Snippet

What I end up with is dropdown boxes which just don't fit. The rollovers fit fine (the light blue background ones) but the actual boxes are too big for the background:

Menu Altered

I have attached my styles_menubar.css file for people to have a look at.

Is there anyone who has tried to customise the dropdown menu or have any experience with this?

Nice one Dietmar!

It worked out just fine. I didn't know about the -17px relationship between the ul and the ul.a tags.

Thanks very much for your help!
