Moodle in English: 'Mail now' tick box

'Mail now' tick box

My students and non-editing teachers don't have the 'Mail now' tick box available on the forums. Is that how it's supposed to be and , if so, is there any way of giving them this feature.

I've looked in the capabilities but can't see anything there.

Hi Pete,

The mail now checkbox is available for anyone with the capability to manage course activities, normally teachers and admins. (Source: Forum posting) Thus it seems the feature is not intended for use by students and non-editing teachers.

Hi Helen,

I understand the forum is designed so only teachers+ have the "Mail Now" checkbox (not students). But, is there a way to modify this restriction?

We would prefer that students also have this checkbox and are not sure how/where to enable it.

Because our Moodle is for staff development, this has been a problem for us. Often during 1-2 hour workshops, we want participants to post/reply to each other during the session, but they can't because the posts don't appear until the session is over.

The posts appear immediately in the forum when you post, no matter whether the mail now box is ticked or not...
