We recently did a survey of students who had used Moodle for submission of assignments. One very common complaint was that they didn't get an automatic email acknowledging their assignment submission. Could anyone tell me please if there is a setting for this that I'm missing?

We use the Advanced Uploading assignment with some slightly modifications that display and email a submission receipt to students after they click 'Send for Marking'. More detail available in this post.

Thank you for your response which I think will be very helpful to me. I'll certainly look carefully at the modifications you've implemented.
I would also be interested to know if you have compared your modification with that of MDL-7206 and whether either will be in 2.0.
