Continuing Education Project

We are working on a project for a non-profit organization. We are developing a project named "continuing education project".

Some 190 volunteers will be trained and worked at information desks in the airport. Since it is voluntary, the average age is pretty high; 60. We are stuck with what sort of training we can provide to these people. How we could develop an educational environment where they will be trained and updated regarding the current issues and events.

We have done a couple of seminars for providing training. But the attendance was pretty low. Everyone is coming from different parts of the region. Therefore, it is not always convenient for them to come and attend the seminar or other courses.

Basically, we need to come up with some ideas and solutions for what kind of training we can provide to the volunteers (190 volunteers, works 4 hours per week) so that the volunteers think that they are growing in the job and they are learning while staying in the job?

We are looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

Thank you in advance.

A way they could learn on the job would be from one another, through Moodle. Set up a course for the volunteers where they can exchange information about how they answered specific questions that arose during their job. They could use wikis to develop manuals on specific topics that are frequently asked about. You can train them in the basics, but in the long run it is the volunteers themselves who will become the experts on how to do their job.

This would work even better if the volunteers have computers in front of them while working, the Moodle could become a resource for them to do their job.
