I did see this and did the work-around. Perhaps I'm not doing it correctly.
Is this happening in all courses or just one? Can you provide a screenshot?
One think to check is that the course total hasn't been hidden via the Course -> Grades -> Edit Categories and items screen. Check the eye is not closed next to 'Course Total'. This will affect the student's view.
The next thing to check is that the teacher hasn't collapsed the Grader Report by clicking the minimise icon - next to the course name. If they have tell them to keep clicking the icon to toggle the views (full, aggregates, grades views)
I hope this helps

This is a screen shot of the user report:
Since your course total column does not seem to be hidden - unset the grade type of 'none' back to the default of 'value' for the overall course total column...
I would also note that you have everything set to 'weighted mean' and the weight is set to 'zero' - so that doesn't seem right. Maybe set the course total column to be weighted mean and the sub-categories to be 'sum'.... Depends on what you're trying to accomplish with your grading...
I'd also point out that 'hidden' items in the gradebook can cause issues in some situations when the student views the user report. Unhide them for now... Once we get the grades working as planned I can give you a work around to hiding the grades.
Let us know your results. More screenshots are good... a screenshot or two of the gradebook settings after you make changes (and the corrosponding user report) might be worth ten thousand words
Hi, I have a similar problem with the grades total coloumn. I'm the adminastrator and teacher of the site. I have different courses for my students at university. For some of them in my grade book I see the grades in the last coloumn "grades total", for others the coloumn is empty though the parameters of the gradebook are apparently the same. Maybe there is a parameter that is different but I can't find it and I'm becoming mad trying to solve this problem. Of course even if I download the table in excel there is no "grades total".
What can I do?
Thanks for your help.
It will help of you can tell what Moodle version do you have, plus post some screenshots of the Grader report and Cat and Items interface. Since otherwise it is hard to guess the cause
Excuse me Elena, I think I have found the difference that influenced the vicibility of the coloumn "total", but I don't know why the parameters where different since I hadn't changed them. In some courses in cat and items the parameter was "media pesata (weighed) delle valutazioni" and there I couldn't see the total in the coloumn, in others there was "media semplice delle valutazioni" and there the total is visible. Changing this parameter I see the total of all my courses again.
Something I don't understand is why when I enter in cat and items on the top for some courses it appears the name of the course, whereas in others there is just the word "uncategorised". Do I have to change something?
Thank you very much for your help.
E.g. you had aggregation set to Weighted Mean, but all of your items were weighted as 0 via Cat&Items interface. If you will put some numbers there, e.g. just type 1 in every single box under Weight column, then the totla would be calculated (typing "1" with Weighted Mean will give you the same result as switching to Simple Weighted Mean).
I guess you have upgraded, and in the previous Moodle versions if you had a category, and then you had items out of the category, then those leftovers would be put into Uncategorized category (haha. makes my own head spinning). So this is where Uncategorized folder/category comes from in your new gradebook. I would recommend to clean it up and remove unneeded categories to avoid confusion.
There can be a variety of reasons why students cannot see the gradeobok.
- Check Permissions for the Student role, to make sure they can see User report
- Check course site Settings in Administration block to make sure that Show gradebook to students is set to Yes.
- Make sure that items or categories are not hidden in the gradebook (eye icon is set to open via Cat and items)
Permissions for the "Student role" are given, items or categories are not hidden in the gradebook, but if I log in as a student opening the gradebook the page appears blank.
I guess I don't really understand where I can find this "course site Settings" in "Administration". I looked under course, evaluations, users, but I didn't found it. Can you help me again. Thank's. Paola
Ok, now I've managed to make the evaluation table visible to the students, but they see the whole table, not only their own grades. Is it normal or is there a way to make visible only their own grades? If in "students role" I permit only "Possibility to view their own grades" and not the more general one, trying to open the gradebook the student gets the message: "you have no permission to view the grades".
No, this is not normal Students are not supposed to see Grader report (table) at all. They should only be able to see User report with only their own grades.
I am not sure now what kind of setting do you have.
Can you please tell what Student role is Allowed to do via Permissions in regards to the gradebook? ("View your own grade report" is generally enough).
Screenshot may help
Also, since you are the admin, check Site Administration > General Settings, and make sure that Student is checked under "Graded roles".
Where they cannot see them, in the gradebook, or the assignment tool? What are the error message? What kind of set up and calulations do you have in the gradebook? What is your Moodle version?
After grading manually the assignments, as a teacher i am able to see the grades for students. But when the students login, they are able to see only the quiz grades. Teh assignment grades are not seen, meanwhile they can see the assignments which they submitted. Also, they can't see the feedback i have put for them. Can you please help me out.
