Adam,
I have been playing with role permissions. I am not an expert but it looks to me as if you may need to make a new role which is a copy of the Teacher role. It looks like you will need to go into the forum section of the permissions and probably turn off the inital subscription permission. This is what Moodle Docs says about it:
- This allows a user to be subscribed initally to forum
- A user with this capability will receive notification emails from force-subscribed forums
- This capability is allowed for default teacher, non-editing teacher and student roles
- This capability is not set for default admin and course creator roles so they don't receive unwanted forum subscription emails (i.e. emails from every forum that has forced-subscription). If this is set for any role that is used at system level (e.g. admin, course creators), assigning users to these roles will take a long time because users will be subscribed in forums in all courses.
There might be someone else who knows about it than I do.
