Teacher capabilities limited by student role

Teacher capabilities limited by student role

Hello,

We are currently having problems with the view participants capability. The student role on course level has an override which prevents students in this particular course to see the participants.

The teacher role set on site level allows you to see the participants.

As long as one individual is either assigned as a student or a teacher all go's well.

However in some occasions we have a trainer whom is also a student in the same course. Since this user has two roles one as a student and a second as a teacher; this users should be able to see the participants.

However this is not the case, this teacher when he accesses the system can't see the participants any more.

We are currently using:
Moodle 1.9.3+ (Build: 20081126

Does anyone knows what the cause can be of this strange occurrence.

Thanks
Wim

Sorry - this is not a solution, just a question and possible workaround: why is is essential your trainer is a student in the course as well as a teacher? A teacher can assume the role of student in order to behave like a student in the course so why not take them out as a student altogether?

 Correct, I follow your reasoning.

But students are grouped (based upon their manager in the system). For this we use separate groups setting in the course.

this means the teacher will be placed as a student in a group which allows his manager to follow up on him.

This is why the teacher needs to be subscribed as a student and can not assume the role of a student.
