We are encountering issues: Student's grades differ from teacher's gradebook.

Student's grades (user id=2641) in http://moodle.fp.tul.cz/grade/report/user/index.php?id=638 shows Course total=5.74 with only one HotPotatoes test = 1.20 (24.00 %); Grading method for every item is Highest Grade.

Teacher's gradebook in http://moodle.fp.tul.cz/grade/report/user/index.php?id=638&userid=2641 shows Course total=1.20 (24.00 %) with only one HotPotatoes test = 1.20 (24.00 %).

And also every student sees much more points then the Teacher gradebook shows.

Have You any suggestion where is the problem?

A teacher pointed this problem out to me today. He is using the sum of points method to calculate his grade which I am unfamiliar with, but I have determined two things:

  1. The grade shown to the teacher is correct (1063 points out of 1200 in this case)
  2. The grade shown to the student is incorrect (1035.57 points out of 1200 in this case)
It is interesting to note that when the student looks at his grade, he sees a decimal number of points despite ALL grades being entered as integer numbers of points. When I look at the student display vs. the teacher display, all assignments have identical information, only the total is in error.

It should be noted that I am using LSU's gradebook with Moodle 1.9.3+ (Build: 20081231). Are you using the default gradebook?

[Edit] Looking at recent posts, her is another person with the same problem: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=121745

and here: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=111959 which refers to http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-16817 where the solution is identified. It results from using BOTH of the following: Sum of grades aggregation AND having an item hidden.

Richard, thank you for reporting.

We are using default gradebook.
Number of decimal places showed, depends on value in grade/edit/settings.

As Richard mentioned, such discrepancy happens with 1.9.4 if you have hidden items. But usually it is vice versa (instructor should see higher total, since for him hidden grades are included in aggregation, and for studnets they are not).
I am puzzled. mixed
