In siteadmin>security>site policies. That is within Moodle - you can also increase it in the moodle files on the server(if allowed) but the above might be what you were wanting.

Just for the purpose of determining how successful we are in providing documentation, have you searched Moodle Docs for the answer to your question, and if so, how would you describe your experience (could not find Moodle docs, too much indirection, didn;t understand enough about topic to be successful with search, etc)?

Hi Ishraga,

This question comes up frequently and there are a few parts to the answer. First, the person who administers the server your Moodle is running on may be using a default PHP configuration that only allows for an 8MB upload. If you have Moodle admin login permissions then you can quickly determine if this is the case, and if the limit is only 8MB you can ask your server administrator to please change this configuration. Here's how to check that configuration. From the Site Administration block click the Server link and then click PHP info. In the PHP Core section of the table that appears you will see a value called post_max_size. This will tell you what has been compiled into the server .ini file as the maxium upload size. For Moodle a good value should be around 64MB. The 8MB default is fairly small by today's standards.

If the aforementioned value is higher than 8MB then the next place you will want to check, from the Site Administration block, is under Security; click the Site policies link. There is a value called Maximum uploaded file size, with a drop-down list. If this is set to 8MB that might be where your problem is. Change it to a higher value or simply select Server Limit if you're using s newer version of Moodle.

Finally, you (or your teachers) can contol the size of file uploads at the Course level. This is handy for controlling the size of files students can upload. To access this value select Settings in the Administration block and then locate the Maximum upload size drop-down list. Change this to whatever size you want.
