Disable the sending of emails in forum

Hi
We are using the forum as a vehicle to incorporate blended learning in the classroom. Students are making photo stories and then uploading them to a forum for other members of their class to view and comment on. The students are divided into their respective classes, so we want students to view only the photostories of the same class members. What is happening is that as soon as a student uploads a photo story, an email is sent to everyone on the site irrespective of whether they are enrolled in this course or not.

How can I set the forum so that emails are not sent out to everyone on the site? Your help would be appreciated here!

Hi Robert,

Did you perhaps assign the users as students for the site rather than students for each respective course?

To check this you can go to Administration >Users >Permissions> Assign system roles. If you see students names listed here they would be students for the whole site and probably would receive emails.

I have commented out the whole function of the mod/forum/lib.php file
a function called forum_cron

line 233 to 801

this is what worked for us
