Weighting grades and value entry

Dear fellow Moodlers,

I have two questions related to the gradebook, in version 1.9 of Moodle.

1. How do I assign different weights to the values in each category (i.e. In my course Quiz #1 is worth 5% of the overall grade, Quiz 2 is worth 10% of the overall grade, etc.)?

2. Using the "value" function, do I enter the achieved value as a percentage of the final grade (i.e. 4.5 out of 5 for Quiz #1) or do I simply enter the full percentage achieved (e.g. 90% for Quiz #1) on that particular aspect of their mark, and do the calculation of the percentage of their final grade elsewhere?

Thank-you in advance.

Thank-you Gary. The tutorial was helpful although I will have to wait to see if my gradebook is calculating everything correctly.
