Having thought about it some more, I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature. The menu and the iframe (which are side by side) are resized based on the width of the page. This, of course, doesn't work in a fixed width (typically centered) theme. What the resize script should do - I think - is to get the size of whatever container the ims stuff happens to be in. The surrounding div presumably.
Your way might be a simpler workaround, however.
