My moodle

My moodle

I've been using Moodle for a about a year now at an Icelandic college and recently in two courses at the Icelandic university of Education. I'm very please with the way things are evolving but would like to point out a very important feature that I believe is currently missing.

When I log into (dare I say it) WebCT I´m presented with a page showing all my courses, personal bookmarks and announcements. I can quickly scan this page and see if anything has been happening in any one of my courses and enter them should I want to. I can also change my password settings and preferences from here.

Perhaps this has been discussed before but I believe this feature to be very valuable to students and teachers alike, expecially when one is enrolled in or teaches more than one class. I would very much like to have a similar feature in Moodle.

Regards,
S.Fjalar

It's in my sights - you can see that a small step was made towards it with the "My Courses" on the home page but a comprehensive "dashboard" giving an overview of everything is the ideal, I agree.  We can do a LOT better than WebCT though.  wink

Would be great for our "students in control", such a Dashboard.

All the components for such a page are there...

Adding a personal eWiki to that page would give Moodle again a killer-app-page.

We toy with Williams bookmarks in version 1.3.4.  Works fine, not the problems WP mentions.

Because you cannot undo categories, We let only the admin set the categories. We have now three cats:

  1. ToDo (to go back to tasks you did not finish, as a quick overview for the progress in all your courses: privat)
  2. O yeah (to make a quick personal note of a brilliant idea, you even can attach a file to that note: privat)
  3. Nominate (the student can proudly bookmark his latest homework masterpiece as candidate for his portfolio: should become "innercircle visible" )
..I wish here an automatic email to his coursementor, so he can give advise to make it even better before it goes into the student portfolio... ..Having this eWiki as portfolo in my Moodle page would be fantastic!!)

I will start soon to patch it in my 1.4 trial version..
Anyway: Thanks William, I hope things go better.

By the way Jon, what is the status of the English version of Questions? is this modul ready for try-outs?

One of the most requested (by students) here features is a calendar on the student page that shows all the student's due dates for all courses. This could get a bit messy in the standard calendar format, but some sort of color coding might help.

It would also be nice if calendars allowed students to create group events to schedule study meetings, etc.
