I originally posted this thread in 'backup and restore' http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=118092#p519024 but was given a tip that I might have more luck in this forum... so here goes!
I am running v 1.8.8 and when a backup and restore is done by a Teacher, a 'new role' is created each time, which in turn creates a long list of role duplications that we don't need and can be troublesome. I understand from http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-11234 that we can avoid this situation by simply allowing teachers to assign other teachers in role assignments but we don't want to do this as there is too much room for error.
It seems, by the documentation http://docs.moodle.org/en/Roles_FAQ#How_do_I_enable_teachers_to_assign_other_teachers_in_a_course.3F that the default is to not allow teachers to assign teachers, so I would think this duplication of roles has to be more of a problem for others?
