I have to set up 26 course homepages, many with different test deadlines. When restoring a courses, are the deadlines relative or absolute?
In order to set up the 26 courses, I am creating a standard course with the deadlines set relative to the beginning of that course.
I plan to back it up, and restore it 26 times.
I could either
1) change the names and start times of each newly created restored course,
2) set up empty courses with different names and start times and then restore the general course into those courses.
In either case will/can the deadlines be made to reflect the start times of the courses, either as a result of my setting the start date of the restored course, or as a result of my restoring the course into a existant course with a different start date?
Or once I have restored all the courses, will I then have to change the start time and deadline of each piece of homework manually (there are 15 weeks with about 4 pieces homework =26 * 15 * 4 = 1560 deadlines).
Admittedly there are some courses that start and stop on the same day. So under the worse case scenario, I could first create a general course. Then back it up and restore it to courses that start on each of the 9 different start times. Then edit 8 of the those courses, and then restore each of them to the other courses that start at the same time. (9 courses * 15 weeks * 4 pieces of homework = 540 deadlines)
It would be great if I only have to set 15 weeks * 4 pieces of homework = 60 deadlines, but I have the sinking feeling that the restored course deadlines will be absolute and not relative.
And I have just realised, that the situation is worse that I thought. Depending on the day that the course starts there are national holidays at different weeks in the schedule.
This would mean that in order to use one general course as a template the restore procedure would have to be so clever as to layout the the course activities and rearrange the deadlines so as to avoid those weeks that are hidden. I appreciate that this is pretty darn near impossible.
It looks as if I will be going with the 9 different course templates.
So... this is just food for thought.
