I've trying to think of a way to use one of the Moodle modules in place of the printed work logs (see attached .PDF file) I currently distribute each week to my students.
I record a work ethic grade each day on each work log. I realize I can use linked Excel worksheets on our school network, e-mail, web-based feedback forms, or file uploads/downloads to collect the same information my students record on their work logs, but isn’t there an easier, more efficient way in Moodle to at least have them record what they did in class each day?
Ideally, I’d like to be able to:
1. view the students’ entries for the day
2. add comments, if necessary, to an entry
3. calculate a student’s work ethic grade for the week (total points earned/total points possible)
4. edit, if necessary, the grades I assigned (if I made a mistake, forgot to enter a grade that day, etc.)
NOTE: Performing calculations in and layout of such a Moodle-based work log are less important to me than simply being able to collect the students' entries.
I would appreciate any suggestions anyone could offer.
My thanks to everyone in advance for their assistance and suggestions.

Which Moodle module could I replace my printed work logs with?

Hi there,
perhaps you want to consider using the database module. This would have most of the functions you need. If you then set up an RSS feed you will be notified as soon as a student enters something. It also allows for commenting. Automatic grading however is not possible as far as I know.
All the best,

Stephen, that's a good idea... A Database might work quite well. You might want to take a look at the Moodle Exchange. We just started the Database of databases. There are a couple of samples there that might give you some ideas.
Does your form stay the same from day to day. or does it change? That would change how you did it.

Hi Paula,
I'm working on a module at the moment that may do what you want. It will be ready in a few weeks time if you're interested.

Hi guys,
I have just released an activity module called Focuspad that I think may do what you require as a work log.
You can have a look at a demo and find out more at http://focuspad.mintranet.com.au
To account for the work ethic grade I would use a scale and set the grading to be cumulative within the activity.
I would also set it to use a template to help guide the students a bit.
If it would require any other features or modifications to be more useful let me know and I may be able to implement them.
