page too wide in Internet explorer

Hi

I have built my site on a mac using Firefox to edit and Safari to test - the problem I have is that the site looks great in both these browsers but in Internet explorer half of the icons are lost that I have set up, a wide central page and squashed sides that hide half the content I have on. I have chosen not to show the courses on the front page which makes things nice and airy - well aprt from in Internet explorer.

Does anybody have an idea how I can cure this problem please?

Kind regards

Chris

Chris,

Is this related to the resolution of the target machine, not just which browser. For example are switching from a 1680 wide mac to a 1024 wide PC to test IE?

Does the problem disappear if you switch to a standard theme, say Formal White?

Have you put fixed widths anywhere such as in header.html or footer.html in your theme, or on your front page?

Putting in fixed widths could be the trouble. So could over large graphics.

If its not any of those it could be that in editing the header & footer files you have incorrectly closed tags such as tr td div (for example) or have incorrectly nested these. Doing so has strange effects that one browser will forgive another not!

Regards,

John
