Hello. I tried to update my Moodle site today but the following message appeared and I cannot login anymore. Can anybody help me with this? My site is http://harahara.net/moodle/
Check the permissions for your moodledata folder. This error message indicates Moodle cannot write a sessions entry to this directory. Permissions should be set at say 777.
Thank you for your advice. I changed the whole moodledata directory to 777 mode and it worked!! Wonderful! Now the update was done. However, I still got the following strange error message:
Module "resource" (2004080801) could not be installed. It requires a newer version of Moodle (currently you are using 2004082900, you need 2004092901).
It looks like I need a Moodle version of September 29th, which obviously is not available at the moment. Why do I get such a message, or what wrong did I do?
Appears you are on the bleeding edge. I think 2004082900 is the latest 1.4 beta stable, which is heading toward release (probably tomorrow). You are being asked to install a resource module that is not available yet. I don't know why that is happening. Do you have an option of starting over? That is, create a new table structure and reinstall 2004082900.
I fixed my problem by finding this old posting. I upgraded to 1.4 from version1.1.1.
Someone should update the documentation.
backup data directory
backup SQL data
rename moodle to moodle.backup
untar the new version of moodle in the archive file
ex: tarxvzf moodleverxxxx.tgz
copy config.php file from moodle.backup to moodle dir
set these three new folders to have permissions of 777
visit the URL http://yourserver/moodle/admin
the upgrade works and afterwards you can login! yea.
