Hi. How would I display this in tex?

88(121)-88(120)/44?

I want the fraction to be top and bottom, not with a forward slash. For some reason, when I put 88(121) - 88(120)/44 between double dollar signs, it doesn't represent it correctly (parenthesis do not show). Im sure I am doing something wrong.

hmm.. I was asking more where the numerator is 88(121)-88(120)

and the denominator is just 44. How would I do that?

Also, I am unable to show what you have there... If I write 88(121)-\frac{88(120)}{44} here it will show it that way... but not when I do that to my moodle site. My tex filter and algebra filter are borh enabled..

Have you installed some distribution of TeX http://www.ctan.org/starter.html

or given permission to execute filter/tex/Mimetex.xxx (xxx depends on your server operating system and the quality is not as good as in fully functional LaTeX)

thats interesting... I think I do have to check up on my server.

If I write \frac{88(121)-88(120)}{44} here, it doesn't show anything..

And I don't understand why I need to download tex? Inst it already in the code? Is it a program? Iv been doing it all this time without downloading anything..

Well you need those double dollars around TeX:

$ $ \frac{88(121)-88(120)}{44}$ $ (without spaces)

gives

$$\frac{88(121)-88(120)}{44}$$

Mimetex in folder filter/tex is a minimal version of TeX - it works and you can see some examples in http://www.forkosh.com/mimetex.html

If you want to get better quality, different packages of TeX that are missing from Mimetex you may consider installing a larger distribution of TeX. For basic use Mimetex is ok.

I don't know if Jeff got his LateX to work but http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=113071 has some examples for troubleshooting.

I think that the most common reason for failure is that executable file producing tex is not allowed to execute (permissions) but you can probably find it out using debugging. Read that thread.

...and TeX / LaTeX may have different syntax in different TeX distributions so it's good to find documentation about your own TeX version.
