How is the "Choose initial page" supposed to work? I thought that when I chose an initial page, students working on the wiki would see the initial page pop up in the editor when working on the wiki. This is not the case. I don't see my initial content anywhere...

It will do two things. The initial page will contain the content of the page you selected, and any other files in that same directory will become other pages in the wiki.
However , at the moment, I believe all of the files must be named in CamelCase style and be text or formatted text (i.e. no <HTML> or <BODY> tags).

Your post that I received by email seems to be gone... You were asking for an example.
I've attached a trivial example of two initial files in a zip file. Unzip them into a course upload directory and select one of them as your initial content. You should see it work.
