We had an odd occurrence with our site this week. For three days, our Apache+MySQL+PHP5 Moodle server database was pegged with maximum connections and stopped our server dead shortly after restarts. This is our first major moodle issue on four solid years of use with over 360 course pages and 22,000 hits per week lately.
Finally, this morning, by shutting down the RSS feeds block and thus eliminating the following feed, the site was back and beautiful.
My site: http://moodle.blakeschool.org/
The feed: http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=510009
Any hints as to what might have occurred?
We have left the RSS blocks which are highly used off until we can understand how this happened. Not having turned this block back on means we can not be certain that this was the culprit but it was the only recent thing added and it is an odd feed even though it validated with the validation tool.
