Roles and permissions

Sorry my comment about professional development wasn't clear. I WAS able to successfully assign multiple roles (ie student and teacher) to one person, thus solving my concern about the possibility of teachers as students in a professional development setting.

My problem was trying to assign someone with assigned system-wide admin access as a student at a course-level: admin was always overriding. But since it seems a dummy-email is the way to go to solve this admin/student role for testing purposes.
