We are trying to setup moodle to handle a class with project groups. We'd like to let the students upload assignments as a group (and not as individual) and grade the group assignment as a whole (and have the grade propagate to all the group members).
Can this be done? How ?

I also will have project groups in my course, and was having the same question. I found this thread: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=30613 from which it looks that there maybe some solution available in the near future.

There's a contributed "Project Module" that does just what you want. See:

Yes, Project Module looks very much like what I would need in a couple of my courses. I am using an institutional server at my university (University of Helsinki). We have Moodle 1.6.8 at the moment but a new 1.9.3 server will be set up in March. Do you know whether Project Module is compatible with Moodle 1.9.3? You seem to have reported that it works with Moodle 1.8... There is also a Project Module beta 1.8 and 1.9. Have you tried it? (I would need to ask the system administrators to install it, but probably I should intall Moodle on my PC to give this module a try beforehand, and make sure that it does what I need.)
