Hello everyone,

The TeX filter seems to produce a very weird response in Moodle 1.93 with the variable "y." This was not a problem in Moodle version 1.6, but I now find this odd behavior when moving my courses to version 1.93.

The problem appears when one types a function of the variable "y" like in $$sin( y )$$ ("y" sorrounded by parentheses) In such cases, the rendering will show the following:

$$sin$$

I could not understand what was going on, but it seems that has to do with the "y" surrounded by parentheses. After many attempts, I found that the correct rendering can be obtained if spaces are placed in between the parentheses symbols and the "y." I hope that this finding could help other instructors which are trying to display for example trig functions of additions of angles, etc.

Does anyone know why the notation $$( y )$$ is not understood now in Moodle 1.9?

In fact, in order to have this posting show what I wanted I have had to edit it three times since the "y" in between parentheses (and no spaces) appears as a little hand with a thumb up... This is not very convenient for math instructors so be warned.
