Drafts or navigation away warning

We are currently running moodle 1.8 and the default wiki module (will be going to 1.9 once there is a convenient time to run the upgrade).

I have found a problem whereby students, using individual wikis to keep notes, can often lose notes by accidentally navigating away from the editing page, before they have clicked 'save'. Usually this is because they have clicked on a link on their desktop, that has commandeered the window they were using for taking notes.

There does not currently seem to be any mechanism for stopping this, or recovering what they had been writing.

What I was wondering was, is there any way to either:
  1. Pop up a warning message 'Are you sure you want to move to a new page and lose your work?', or
  2. Automatically save a draft version on the server, every 1 min or so (if something has changed) and offer to continue with that version when the student next clicks on 'Edit'?
